Cape Village
Designed in collaboration with the leadership team and participants at Cape, alongside Woh Hup, this bespoke Specialist Disability Accommodation project represents a significant departure from typical development models. We were engaged to translate a participant-led vision into a highly connected, genuine co-living community. Grounded in real lived experience, the architectural strategy goes well beyond standard compliance, integrating thoughtful design and emerging technologies to create an environment that actively enhances independence, dignity, and daily living for its nine residents.
Comprising three independent villas and one On-site Overnight Assistance unit on a single site, the architecture carefully balances collective cohesion with individual identity. The dwellings share a unified formal language characterised by bold geometric articulation and prominent circular cut-outs that soften the robust rectilinear forms. Each villa is uniquely defined through a curated exterior palette of varying brick and metal tones. This considered application of textured masonry and vertical cladding visually demarcates the individual dwellings while maintaining a highly cohesive and approachable residential streetscape.
This deliberate approach to identity and character continues internally, directly supporting the project's co-living philosophy. While the floorplates share a foundational layout to meet rigorous accessibility standards, high-level bespoke residential joinery and tailored colour schemes distinctly define the indoor spaces, intuitively aiding in wayfinding and fostering a strong sense of personal ownership. Independence is further amplified by the seamless integration of advanced technology within each home, featuring automated doors and highly adaptable joinery systems. Complemented by high-level roof forms designed to draw natural light deep into the living zones, the project delivers a highly refined, dignified domestic environment that successfully prioritises both comfort and community connection.
